At the same time that I was reading up about Wonder Weeks, I came across a wonderful online resource exploring the developmental leaps in children after age one, and specifically the effect of these leaps on sleep: Bedtiming. Unfortunately, the authors are no longer posting, but the archives are fascinating reading if you are interested in childhood development.
The knowledge that there were known, predictable developmental leaps at certain ages (18-21 months, 2.5 years, and 3.5 years), and that these leaps affected specific parts of the child’s mind, has been really useful to me as a parent of my younger two children.
These posts in particular were very helpful:
18 - 21 months:
18 - 21 months: the mother of all develomental transitions
The most common cause of early discipline problems
2.5 years:
2.5 years old Part 1: Just when you thought you could relax
2.5 years old Part 2
2.5 years old Part 3
3.5 years:
3.5 years Part 1: It's all in their heads
3.5 years Part 2
Please not that same book/song again
Sue Haydon also blogs about developmental leaps between age 1 and 2 in her own child, including a leap at 22-24 months:
Wonder Weeks 13-24 months
Do you find this information helpful in parenting your child? Is your child in the middle of any of these developmental leaps, and if so, does it help explain their behaviour? Or do you find this not helpful at all?
