Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
I have sung these lines many many times in church in recent years, and felt that I just didn’t get what it meant.
This past Sunday, insight dropped into my mind as I sung them again. Let me attempt to put into words what I now know in my heart to be truth.
Have you ever had moments, days, weeks, or even seasons, when God felt distant? When you felt you were going through the motions with prayer and bible study and service, but just didn’t feel the connection with Jesus that you longed for?
I have.
During these times, I have felt as if I were reaching without success to heaven. I strive, I try everything that I know to reach God’s ear, but I fail. I attempt to still myself and know that he is God, but I fail.
But Someone has reached the Highest Heavens for us. Our Saviour, Jesus, died so that we could boldly enter into Father’s presence. He is our Jacob’s ladder. Your love, O Jesus, reaches to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
