Well, this one’s a no-brainer to me. I am fortunate enough to live in a climate which has a lot of hot, dry weather, so line-drying is just common sense. However, for those of you who have not considered it, here are the pros and cons as I see them.
Electric dryers :
- cost money
- don’t save much time
- don’t save much effort
Line-drying:
- is free
- gets you outside in the sunshine
- helps bleach and sanitise laundry (especially cloth diapers)
- can help cut down on ironing
The only positive I can see with an electric dryer is for use in wet or humid climates. For us, however, there are only a few times in the middle of our winter when I could use one, and generally hanging the laundry indoors overnight is enough to get it dry.
Do you line-dry your laundry? Why or why not?
